The latest Apple iMac models released in the Fall of 2009 require PC3-8500 DDR to run. The standard configuration for this iMac model is 4GB of RAM with a maximum 16GB allowed. This model iMac has no fixed memory in any of its 4 memory slots. As it ships from the factory, this iMac comes with 2GB of ram installed in two of the 4 memory slots available for upgrade. This leaves two memory upgrade slots available. To upgrade, you’ll need to install memory upgrades in kits, meaning 2 memory modules at a time. Most vendors market memory upgrades as memory upgrade ‘kits’.

They offer both individual memory modules, and memory upgrade kits: 2GB memory modules are priced at $56.99. You’re better off buying the 4GB memory upgrade kit at $113.99 which includes 2×2gb memory modules. Others options are a 4GB memory module, but it’s pricey at$299, and the 8gb memory upgrade kit for this new iMac is priced at $599.99. The best value is the 4GB memory upgrade kits at $113.99
Edge Tech Corp has the same configuration as Crucial Technology: 2GB memory modules for the new iMacs are priced at $62.88 and a 4GB memory upgrade kit is priced at 125.88. 2GB memory upgrade kits are priced at $64.88, and 8GB iMac memory upgrades are priced at $644.88.
