The Apple iMac 27-inch 2.8GHz Quad i5 (MB953LL/A) released in the fall of 2009. requires PC3-8500 DDR3 Memory. The good news is that you can fill it with up to 16GB by filling all FOUR memory slots available. The bad news: It’ll cost ya.

Where to Buy Memory for Apple iMac 27 inch 2.8GHz, and more importantly: how much?

Crucial Technology is always a good place to start. Pricing is competitive, it’s name brand and customer service is top notch too. Better yet: the memory you buy from crucial will be much cheaper than what you can get from Apple. (Actually, this applies to every vendor, not just crucial technology). So. Memory upgrade options for this particular iMac are twofold: you can buy memory upgrade kits, or you can buy individual memory modules and do the math yourself: If you go with the individual modules, they are priced at $56.99 for 2GB and $299.99 for the 4GB. As you can see, the 4GB option is pricey. If you go with the memory upgrade kits the 4GB KIT (2×2GB) is $113.99, and the 8GB runs $599.00. To get to 16GB you’ll need to buy two 8GB memory upgrade kits for iMac which you run you almost $1200. The 4GB kit is the most economical choice by far and you can keep the 4GB your iMac shipped with, which will give you 8GB in your iMac for just a touch over $100.

Edge Tech Corp also carries the same memory module sizes and configurations but they cost you more than Crucial. 2GB memory module are priced at $62.88. Memory Upgrade kits from Edge Tech Corp will run you $125.88 for the 4GB memory upgrade kit and $644.88 for the 8GB memory upgrade kit.

4AllMemory lists only individual memory modules for this model, so you’ll have to do the math yourself. They offer a 1GB memory module but I suggest starting at the 2GB memory module at least. The price difference is $10 between the two. For ten bucks you can double your upgrade. 1GB is priced at $49.99 and 2GB is priced at $59.99. The 4GB memory module is priced at $369
